Jammu: Militants stormed an army camp in Sunjwan area on the outskirts of Jammu city on Saturday morning, leaving an army Hawaldar and his daughter injured.

The camp, strategically located on Srinagar-Jammu-Pathankot highway, is surrounded by dense population.

Sources said gun shots were heard inside the camp, and the area has been cordoned off by the forces.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Range SD Singh Jamwal said that suspicious movement was noticed by a sentry of Sunjwan army camp around 4:55 am.  

"Sentry bunker was fired upon (by the militants) and they retaliated," he said, adding that a Hawaldar and his daughter were injured in the initial round of fire.

He said the number of militants who entered the camp was not known. "They have been cornered in one of the family quarters. The operation in on," he said.
