Srinagar (VMS): Three militants were killed in a gunfight in Hakoora area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Monday, police said.
"Pursuing credible leads of presence of militants SFs started search in the Hakoora area of Anantnag district. While the search was going on the hiding militants fired upon the search party. The fire was retaliated by the security forces ensuing an encounter," said a police spokesman, in a statement.
"In the said encounter, 3 militants were killed which are identified as Mohd Eesa Fazli@ Eesa Roohullah (TuM) B. Tech Student of Soura Srinagar, Syed Owais Shafi of Viloo Kokernag (HM) and Sabzar Ahmad Sofi of Naina Sangam Anantnag (HM)."
He said that arms and ammunition, including AK 47 rifles, pistols, hand grenades etc., were recovered from the site of the gunfight.
"It is pertinent to mention that among the killed militants, one was involved in a recent attack on a police guard post at Soura in which one police constable had been killed," he said.
"In this connection a case has been registered and investigation has been started under the relevant provisions of the law by the Police."
Authorities decided to impose the restrictions in Srinagar parts including old city on Monday after a militant from Soura, Srinagar was killed along with his two associates in an overnight encounter with government forces in Anantnag district.
Although police did not spell out the reason for imposing the sudden restrictions, administration officials said they apprehended protests following the killing of the militant Mohd Eshan of Soura.
“Restrictions will be imposed in the police station areas of Maharajgunj, Safakadal, Rainawari, Nowhatta, Khanyar and Soura as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order,” a senior official said.
Meanwhile, all the educational institutions including schools and colleges in Srinagar will remain closed. All examinations scheduled for the day (March 12, 2018) are postponed. Fresh dates for the deferred examinations will be notified separately, later.
