Srinagar: Protesting Students of Amar Singh College in Srinagar Thursday set a force’s picket ablaze amid intense clashes with government forces.

The clashes erupted soon after the Students came out of the campus and started raising slogans against the recent militant and civilian killings in south Kashmir.

The protesting students raised pro-freedom and anti-India slogans and pelted the forces with rocks.

Some protesting students reached the forces picket situated near the Indore Stadium and set it ablaze, witnesses said.

The clashes were going on when reports last came in.

Meanwhile, Shopkeepers pulled down their shutters in Regal Chowk and Lal Chowk areas of Srinagar on Thursday after the Students of SP Higher Secondary, Kothibagh and Women’s College held protests against the killings of 13 militants and four civilians in Shopian on Sunday last.

The students marched up to Regal Chowk area of the civil lines, and raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans resulting in tension all around in the Srinagar business hub.

A Shopkeeper in Regal Chowk said that they have pulled down their shutters due to tension.

Schools and Colleges resumed their routine work today after three days.

The educational institutions were shut by authorities for three days to prevent protests.
