AGRA: In one of the biggest recoveries of stolen phones in recent times in Agra division, GRP Agra cantt claims to have recovered 55 high-end smartphones from a gang of six thieves, who have a long criminal history in railway police records.
Identified as Shahrukh, the gang leader who hails from Shahganj police jurisdiction of Agra city, Amir Khan of Jagner Road in Agra, Praveen Singh of Khedagarh in Agra, Mohammad Yunus of Ghaziabad, Mulla Singh of Mathura and Mohammad Suleman of Old Delhi, the six were apprehended while they were about to board UP Sampark Kranti Express from Delhi.
Among the six, Amir Khan had earlier served a jail term for robbery and theft in Gwalior.
Manikant Sharma, the station officer of Arga Cantt GRP, said, “This was a big seizure of stolen phones in recent times. The accused used to sell the parts of the stolen phones in Delhi market. One of the accused owns mobile repairing shop in national capital.”
He said, “The modus operandi of the accused were simple. They targeted the victim at the outer of the railway stations. As soon the train’s speed slowed, the accused used to snatch and jump from the train with the mobile.”
The GRP assumes that the recovered stolen phone value is over Rs 11 lakh and the accused might have sold several other stolen phones parts in the market to earn quick bucks.
According to GRP, there are at least 13 to 14 criminal cases registered on each of the accused nabbed.
